Queer culture is truly celebrated with Liverpool’s first ever-dedicated perspective of events by and for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Homotopia is a bold and ambitious festival featuring a variety of events including theatre, film, art, performance, photography, heritage and storytelling.
I hope that the Liverpool lesbian & gay community realises it’s untapped potential and engage in one of the most exciting chapters in the city’s history.
For too long people in Liverpool have had to look to other cities to raise the rainbow flag with pride. Through the emergence of a genuinely home-grown event I hope that Homotopia helps in creating a cultural shift in the way lesbians and gays are represented throughout the city. This inaugural event will create a platform giving the Liverpool l/g/b/t community the chance to present an inclusive and unique event up to and including 2008 and beyond.
Without the trust and continuing support of the Liverpool Culture Company and our key partners such as Unity Theatre, Outsiders Film Festival, FACT and Armistead this project would have been an impossible task.
I hope that Homotopia is the catalyst that will bring together people irrespective of their sexualities, through the passion, wit and creative energies of the many talented individuals that have made this event happen.
Finally, I believe that Homotopia will help, in some way, to position Liverpool and its diverse communities in becoming a first class European Capital of Culture.

Festival Director.
